Excellent point about stopping business and sharing code for common usage. I guess it should be like books that become publicly available after some period of time after the author's death. For software, it should be a shorter period of time, of course.
I did the same a few weeks ago. I had been developing extras for CMS MODX for providing paid packages that help with integration with payment systems, like Stripe or PayPal, but which work in my region. As I switched to another stack of technology, it became difficult for me to support all of it, and I announced that every package now is open to use for free (in both aspects, money related and freedom of modifying).
